a private nature preserve
on ten acres of woods, meadow, and ponds dedicated to native plants and rewilding. The name is a nod to the box turtles who emerge from the wooded areas each spring to nest in open, sunny areas. And the many rocks in and on the ground.
Turtle Rock is a seed bank and sanctuary for native flora and fauna to assure regeneration.

Early Spring
Spring ephemerals emerge from the woodland ground, putting on a show before the trees leaf out. Wood frogs breed in the ponds.
-
Late Spring
Late Spring yields bursts of color in the understory ahead of trees leafing out.
-
Summer
The land fully “fleshes” out after Summer Solstice. In bright open areas, the flowers of summer come into their own. Hardly an inch of soil hasn’t been utilized by one plant or another.
-
Autumn
Come September, the big floral show is mostly over but early autumn still has plenty to offer.

Winter
While most of the plants will have retreated back to their roots for the winter, silhouetted tree trunks offer dramatic displays.
